Q:

How much is a boiler service

My boiler is a vaillant ecotec plus and it needs a service in the next few weeks. How much is a boiler service and is there anything else in my house that I need to have tested at the same time. I was recently browsing some website and saw fees for additional appliance checks. What are these for as I thought the only thing I needed servicing was a boiler?

Each boiler is different and it depends on the level of service.
Your Vaillant Ecotec Plus for instance doesn't require a "full service" every year, but every two years as per manufactures recommendations.
Dependant on the flue gas analyser readings, the entire burner may need to come out and be cleaned, which means the old burner case seal will need to be replaced with a new graphite seal and locking rings, extra £30 or so in materials.
Boiler brand model, how long since last service, the manufacturers instructions, flue gas analyser readings, they all play a part in the price.
Generally £50 - £80 for basic service but can go up to £120+ for full service with new gaskets/seals.
The manufacturers insist on regular inspections (every year) to ensure safe operation and efficiency of the boiler. That does not mean it needs a full service every time.
Most manufactures will void the warranty if it hasn't had annual/regular inspection/service by gas safe engineer. Engineer needs to sign the service book.

A boiler service cost in the region of £50 to £80. Depending on how far away you. Boilers should be serviced annually but we also recommend other gas appliance should also be checked to make sure they are running correctly with no leaks. There is an extra charge for each appliance checked.

You should be looking for a price range of between £50-£80 for an annual service. Bearing in mind an hour is a reasonable guide for how long it should take. All gas appliances should be checked yearly whether it is used frequently or not, and prices on different appliances can vary depending on how much is involved. A gas hob for example can be as little as £10 upto a gas fire around the £80 mark. You would only expect to pay as much as £100 to a large company.

Prices will vary depending on where you live an what time of year it is. You can expect to pay less in the summer when it is quieter time for gas safe registered engineers, generally they can range from £50-£90.

If it's standard service without changing any elements such as seals you should look for £50 upwards.
Depending on your location and company it can go up to £100

£50-£80 is the normal price range. You don't have to have all your gas appliances tested but i'd recommend getting them all done whilst the boilers being done just for peace of mind

Price can vary dependant on location. It is highly recommended that all gas appliances are regularly serviced this includes boilers, cookers, hobs and gas fires. Generally the more appliances you have serviced at the same time you tend to get a discount for each extra appliance but that depends on the gas engineer.
