Q:

How do you paint on to new plaster?

How do you paint onto new plaster? Just moved into our first home and the house had been re plastered before we moved in but decorating wise. Do we need to do anything to the plastered walls before decorating? Is it just standard paint we use? Thanks : )

Use a good quality paint such as Dulux Trade, apply a mist coat which is just a watered down paint, typically 25% water and 75% paint. We always brush the mist coat on, using a roller can be messy with watered down paints! Allow to dry for a couple of hours. The watered down coat seals the surface of new plaster so that the next neat top coats can be applied, hope this helps - www.dorsetplasterers.com

Apply a coat of contract matt trade emulsion ( McPhersons eclipse, Johnstones, dulux supermatt, armstead trade...) and thin it down about 20% with water. That will give it a good base to put on your top coats.

I would put ether crown or dulux trade emulsion on as a mistcoat following their recommendations on the tubs that you use ,this will give you a real good base for you paint of choice

You need to to apply a mist coat to the new plaster, this can be watered down standard emulation or you can buy plaster paint. Crown eclipse is a good paint and seals the plaster well.

Hello. On all new plaster, you must apply a mist coat of paint. This is a regular emulsion watered down with 10 - 20 % water, ensuring that it is thoroughly stirred. The paint must be a standard matt, not vinyl matt. You can then, once dry, apply two coats of regular emulsion of your choice.
