Q:

Plumber took our copper pipes

We just had some work done and the plumber we hired took with him the copper pipes to sell, despite the fact that we had mentioned before that we wanted to sell them ourselves. Just wanted to know what common practice was in the profession?

If you have told him that you wanted it then it should have been left. Like others have said most plumbers quote to remove all rubbish off site.

If you asked for it to be left. It should be left. Normally rubbish is removed and unless alot of copper its really not worth the hassle.

If the customer asks for it to be left then it gets left behind. It's not very often worth while scrapping it in unless you have a lot to take and go through the effort of separating it all and cleaning it.

Most quotes are to take all rubbish away with them, including copper. The sale of the copper normally covers the price of skipping the rest of the rubbish. As said in another answer tho, it is your property and should be left if asked, some times can mean leaving all the rubbish, depends on what's agreed.

If its yours then there is no tax to pay as the tax had already been paid when it was new. Most plumbers will ask if they can have it. Aftet all its his labour to take it out but as the other guy said
It is not worth to much at the moment
About two pounds a kilo for mixed copper and brass and if you can be bothered to clean and seperate it about two seventy for one kilo. Hope this helps

We tend to leave it with customer anyway. It saves having waste carriers licence. However most companies will leave behind at customers request. Your plumber may have forgotten or you had enough to make it worth his while taking it. I would think it's gone now anyway, and unless you had written agreement, it's a total loss for you.

No not if customer tells you they want the pipe as its your property you need a good amount to make it worth while to sell its not worth as much and with new laws 99per cent of scrap metal yards have to have your id bank account number to pay direct in to your bank so if gov hmrc check they could charge you tax not many places you csn get cash now
