Q:

What Boiler Is Best Value For Money? How Much Is Labour?

Let me start by saying, what a great idea to be able to ask an expert before hiring. Big help.

So, I have decided I need a new boiler for the house and would rather get it sooner rather than later before the cold kicks in. A few questions (sorry to be greedy):

1. How much can I expect to pay for a boiler to be removed and new one installed? (Am I right in thinking they need to be Gas Safe?)
2. The price ranges vary greatly on viessmann, worcester bosch, ideal, Glow Worm, Vaillant etc (just looking at them online now). I have a 3 bed semi-detached house. What do I need? I want one that is good value, good warranty and you experts think is a good purchase?

Thanks for anyone who takes the time to answer.

Hi ,let start by this any one who works with gas appliances ,(install service or repair) must be fully qualified for that type
Of work and be a Gas Safe registered holding a photo card licence .Anyone can check if an engineer is registered contacting Gas Safe register the easiest way online.
The best value for money gas boiler in the international market
Is by far the Worcester Bosch Green star boiler .This machine is in a class of it's own even the Vaillant boilers which I think comes below the green star do not even compare simply you're talking about a real shiny star .They come with a 5 years warranty which really you won't need as the boiler if installed correctly and properly maintained will keep going forever .

The price of replacing a boiler will always vary and depends on too many factors like the boiler make model size ,the property size how much work and material needed is the boiler replacement like for like (example combination boiler out new combination boiler in or convert the whole system from a conventional system to a sealed system powered by a combi or
With a hot water storage cylinder or a mega Flo powered by a system boiler .....etc as you can figure out the prices will vary
And without a site survey no professional can accurately and properly price a job .
I hope I've at least clarified most issues ,in case you need anymore answers please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Vaillant is arguably top boiler at present. It's not really possible togive an accurate quote without a site visit, where are you? Call me on 07969 555837 if you're in the Essex area. Mick

good value and good warranty your looking at either the Ideal or Baxi. Ideal have the logic plus currently has 7 yr warranty or the Vogue which has a 10 yr warranty. The Baxi have the DuoTec which is 7 yrs and the Platinum which is 10. All engineers have their preferences some will slag one make off and big another one up its just down to their experiences of different makes. Ideal and Baxi would say do the best value to warranty out of all of them. Best boilers I would say Viessmann or Vailliant. Worcester have the biggest name but I feel they no longer warrant the price for quality again many will disagree with me there many will agree. Hope this helps in some way.

Hi,
Gas safe registered engineers can fit the boiler for you.
I would advise to always check an engineer is Gas safe registered, before having any work carried out.

What boilers are best?
Everyone has different opinions, just like all other appliances.

Our company only service, repair and install Vokera boilers.
These have been on the market for over 30 years. We work directly with the manufactures so know the products well.

We have Vokera combination boilers in homes which are over 20 years old and are still going strong.
The current product we are installing is the Vokera Unica 28i. This comes with a 5 year warranty, yearly service must be carried out to ensure your warranty is valid (not covered under the warranty).

Hope this helps.
Servo.

Morning

Firstly only gas safe registered engineers can fit a boiler for you.

If you have any queries go on gas safe website and always check that the engineer is registered.

What boilers are best? Difficult question as lots of different engineers will have different opinions on what they prefer.

I myself prefer valiant or gloworm as they are value for money. Valiant normally come with a 7 year warranty and gloworm come with a 5 year. Additional warranty is offered on gloworm at a cost but you can get up to 15 years warranty on the gloworm range.

I normally start my pricing at around £1250.00 supplied and fitted power flushed and in line scale reducer fitted. But obviously this is for the cheap gloworm boiler.

Hope this helps

Only gas safe registered engineers can safely work on gas appliances, they also must be qualified to work on gas boilers. (some kitchen fitters may be qualified to fit gas hobs but thats it) so it is always a good idea to check the gas safe card of the person doing the work.

You should try to do some research on boiler makes but we fit these in this order
high end
Viessmann
Atag
Worcester

mid range
Intergas
baxi

landlords
main/baxi

(other makes and models are available, we choose not to fit them)

Depending on what type of boiler (heat only, system, combi) and which brand and model, and all additional work. then your price could range from £1700 to £4500

Let's keep this simple...

YES, YES, YES... Any installer of a gas appliance must be gas safe registered. We are trained to understand gas safety and ultimately keep the end user safe!

Your choice of boiler is massively dependant on your budget. There are manufacturers such us Worcester/Vaillant offering boilers with a 5 year warranty which has a proven track record of being reliable, then we have manufacturers such as Ideal who do not have a proven track record but have made efforts to produce a higher quality product offering a 7 year warranty at a much lower cost...

I don't believe any manufacturer would tell you their boiler was designed to last more than ten years purely because there are so many electronics in modern boilers! If a boiler is installed correctly (and by correctly I mean having the system flushed prior to installation, relevant filters installed and correctly commissioned in accordance with the manufacturers instructions) and maintained annually then all boilers should reach and possibly exceed the expected ten years...

All boilers are A rated now so the small percentage in efficiency ratings will not affect your gas bill massively. I would concentrate more on having thermostatic radiator valves, programmers and room thermostats installed as these offer more significant savings to the gas user.

Things are never simple! :/ I hope this helps. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have an further questions....

There are a number of good makes. The problem is that each gas engineer fits certain models so will always champion the ones they like to fit. Most boiler manufacturers offer 10 year warranties now. Be very careful however as some 10 year warranties only cover the heat exchanger and not the rest of the boiler. Baxi Platinum are doing a good deal with a ten year warranty. its almost impossible to quote you a price without seeing the property as material costs will vary. When getting quotes ask for each piece of material to be listed and priced. Also make sure that you are getting copper pipe and fittings and not plastic. Check with local friends for recommendations. remember cheap is not always best. Avoid the DEALS for free boiler and radiators for £1500. It will be cheap and nasty and probably not qualified. Remember a decent boiler and flue is in excess of £1000 without all of the other materials.
